FDA Approves Drug for Epileptic Children

The Food and Drug Administration has approved a drug to help control partial seizures in children with epilepsy.
The drug called Lamictal can be taken with existing epilepsy treatments to reduce the frequency of seizures in children ages 2 to 16, manufacturer GlaxoSmithKline said.
Other epilepsy drugs have been available for adults, but they have not been as effective in treating children, researchers said. Of the 2.3 million Americans with epilepsy, about 300,000 are under 14.
