Southern Africa’s hunger crisis is worsening, with about 15 million people in danger of starvation and harvest prospects bleak, the U.N. food agency said.

Time is also running out to send food to drought-stricken Ethiopia, the World Food Program said. About 11 million people face severe food shortages in the Horn of Africa, it said.

“The needs are so colossal, so urgent and so desperate, we must do everything humanly possible to avoid a sudden slip downward,” said WFP head James Morris. Africa-wide, 38 million people are at risk of starvation, WFP estimates.
