Washington State leading scorer and rebounder Marcus Moore needs surgery on his injured right ankle and is expected to miss the rest of the season.

Moore, a junior guard from Compton Dominguez High, has bone chips and bone spurs in his right ankle, and he decided Sunday to have surgery, Washington State Coach Paul Graham said.

Moore ranks second in the Pacific 10 Conference in scoring with a 19.3 average, but the bone chips limited his mobility in the last month.

“He tried to play through the pain,” Graham said. “It became unbearable for him.”

The Cougars are 5-10 overall and 0-6 in the conference.

Central Arkansas reassigned men’s Coach Charles Hervey and hired David James as interim coach.

Hervey had a 30-68 record in four-plus years, including a 1-13 mark this season.
