Dallas Adopts Broad Smoking Prohibition

From Times Wire Reports

The Dallas City Council banned smoking effective March 1 in restaurants and many other public places, saying it is the only way to protect people from secondhand smoke.

The ordinance, which was approved on a 10-3 vote, permits smoking in bars, tobacco shops and pool halls, but they must provide designated smoking and nonsmoking areas.

The ban also applies to hospitals, schools, theaters, libraries and museums.
