In with the old, in with the new
Adrian Rosenthal grew up in Los Feliz and loved the architecture he saw there. So when the opportunity arose, he bought this 1922 house to refurbish before putting it back on the market.
It took Rosenthal 2 1/2 years, working full time, to do the restoration, maintaining the original period details while adding the latest in amenities and technology. Rosenthal renovates homes for a living. This is his biggest undertaking so far.

About this house: The Spanish-style house was designed by A.J. Leicht, who also designed a nearby home in the ‘20s for actress Norma Talmadge. The stairways and walls are curved.

Size: The house has four bedrooms and 3.75 bathrooms in 3,841 square feet. It’s on a 9,330-square-foot lot.

Features: The house has arched windows and doorways, barrel ceilings, hardwood and magnesite floors. It has an octagonal foyer with an octagonal stained-glass skylight; a formal dining room with an alcove; a living room with one of the three detailed fireplaces in the home; a breakfast nook, a library and wrought-iron gates.
The kitchen counters are soapstone, which in the ‘20s was found in kitchens of the upper class. All of the tile is new, but the layouts and colors are period-inspired, and tile designs have vintage layouts.
There is a new carriage house-style door on the garage, which simulates the swing-type doors used in early car shelters, and there is a handcrafted front door. Original hardware throughout the house has been replated to its 1922 state.
The house also has new plumbing, appliances and security features as well as a new pool off the master suite and city views.
