O’Toole asks to defer his Oscar

Peter O’Toole has asked the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to defer his honorary Oscar for 10 years.

It’s not that the seven-time best actor nominee doesn’t appreciate the gesture, announced by the academy last week, but he explained in a letter to the organization that he is “still in the game” and might win one outright, according to Daily Variety.

Academy President Frank Pierson said the honor stands and expressed hope that O’Toole will still show up to accept it March 23.
