The Assembly voted Thursday to fix terms of legislative appointees to the state Coastal Commission at two years in an effort to prevent the agency from being disbanded by a court.

The current open-ended terms, in which commissioners serve at the will of lawmakers, violates the state’s rule on separation of powers, according to a December decision by the 3rd District Court of Appeal.
