Assembly OKs 2-Year Terms for Coastal Panel

The Assembly voted Thursday to fix terms of legislative appointees to the state Coastal Commission at two years in an effort to prevent the agency from being disbanded by a court.
The current open-ended terms, in which commissioners serve at the will of lawmakers, violates the state’s rule on separation of powers, according to a December decision by the 3rd District Court of Appeal.
