From Times Wire Reports

Helicopter gunships attacked a hilly rebel stronghold in Indonesia’s Aceh province, forcing thousands of villagers to flee their homes, officials said today.

It was the second time the military has used airstrikes against the guerrillas since it launched its latest anti-insurgency offensive May 19. The rebel casualty toll was not known.

The Free Aceh Movement has been fighting since 1976 for independence for the oil- and gas-rich province on the northern tip of Sumatra.
