From Times Wire Reports

Surgery began at Raffles Hospital in Singapore to separate 29-year-old Iranian twin sisters who were born joined at the head. Ladan and Laleh Bijani said they wanted to risk the surgery, which could last up to four days, rather than continue living joined.

The hospital’s lead neurosurgeon, Dr. Keith Goh, is part of an international team of 28 doctors and about 100 medical assistants participating in the surgery. One of the surgeons said each sister has a 50% chance of survival. The biggest challenge is dealing with a vein shared by both brains.
