Enemy Combatants
I was outraged to read “Bush Decides 6 Detainees Can Be Tried by Military,” July 4: If a detainee goes to trial and is found not guilty, he could remain in custody anyway. As an enemy combatant, he could be detained for the duration of the war on terrorism. And, said a Defense Department official, “The war on terrorism is open-ended.”
Didn’t we go to war against the British because of this kind of stuff? We are giving banana republics a bad name.
