Groups Criticize Plan to Restore Sequoia Forest
A plan to restore the Sequoia National Forest after a 150,000-acre wildfire is sparking ire among environmental groups.
The U.S. Forest Service proposed to log burned trees on about 13,300 acres. An additional 4,400 acres could be logged along stream corridors.
The Forest Service proposed to log by helicopter in order to avoid building roads. Officials also would leave some dead trees for wildlife habitat.
The plan, one of four under review, calls for burning brush and trimmings trees.
In addition, tree seedlings would be replanted throughout the area.
