Compulsory Voting
Re “ ‘Baskin-Robbins’ Voting,” Commentary, July 6: To support his argument that Belgium’s system of voting is better than ours, Andrew Reding pointed out that voter turnout there is 91.6%. However, he left out an important detail: Belgian law requires all its citizens to vote. Their system draws more people to the polls not because it is inherently superior but because they have no choice.
