Trade Todd Hundley and the millions we owe him in 2004 to the Cubs for .300-hitting Mark Grudzielanek and Eric Karros. Ask the Giants to just give us .300-hitting Marquis Grissom.

A quick reminder to Dodger fans with hope remaining: This is the same bunch that declared themselves “exhausted” two weeks into the season. This is a squad led by an apologetic manager who sees a bright side in every .200 hitter on his team. It is compiled by a GM who doesn’t think adding one bat to the lineup would help (I’d argue it would). And it’s a team plagued by injuries that become nice excuses for failure.

I didn’t hear the Diamondbacks complaining when they lost two Cy Young winners and half of their starting lineup, but I did see their GM go out and get a third baseman who could hit when they realized theirs couldn’t anymore. Then I saw their no-name minor league fill-ins power their way past the Dodgers in the standings, and now they have their two big guns coming back after the break.

I sure hope that the Dodgers manage to pull it together somehow, but such dreams are, as I’m sure Paul Lo Duca would agree, pathetic.

My two sons had Shawn Green pegged long before this recent gaffe. When they went down on the field at Dodger Stadium for Photo Day last year, Green would not shake anyone’s hand. He would point his bat at the crowd so they could shake his bat.

So why should we be surprised that he would not get his uniform dirty to catch a fly ball? He would not even get his hands dirty by greeting the fans.
