Homeland Security as Big Brother?
Re “Security Agency Targets Molesters,” July 10: First we learned that the Department of Homeland Security was used in May to track down renegade Texas Democrats who had fled to Oklahoma to thwart an underhanded Republican redistricting plan. Now we find that Homeland Security is to be used to go after child molesters (a move perhaps calculated to generate little opposition). Who will be the next targets of this new federal agency that is supposed to be protecting us from terrorists? Political dissenters? Americans who question our involvement in the war on Iraq? Is Homeland Security to become the Bush administration’s secret police? Could it happen here?
