Table is the heart of a home

Share

Regarding “The Sit-Down Dilemma” by Mary McNamara (July 10): I’ve lived in a ‘50s bungalow in Lakewood for 12 years and have always thought it is a plus to have a kitchen where I can put my 3-by-5-foot wood table and chairs.

This table has been “multi-tasking” just fine for me because one short end is up against a wall that has an electrical outlet above it, and the chairs are low-backed and out of the way when not in use.

In addition:

* It’s safer for little kids to climb up on low, sturdy chairs than on bar stools.

* I’m 5 foot 3. The 30-inch height is perfect for chopping and kneading bread dough.

* Where else would everybody sit together and make tamales all day?

* You can’t trip over a dog that naps under your table.
