Celebrities in Vandross video

More than a dozen celebrities have teamed to appear in a video for “Dance With My Father,” the title track of Luther Vandross’ latest album. The singer, who suffered a stroke in April, remains hospitalized.

Participating musicians include Quincy Jones, Wyclef Jean, Patti LaBelle, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Babyface, Nona Gaye, Monica, “American Idol” winner Ruben Studdard, Brian McKnight, Johnny Gill, Beyonce Knowles and her father, Matthew.

New Jersey Nets basketball star Jason Kidd also makes an appearance, as do screen stars such as the Wayans brothers and Holly Robinson Peete.

“It is an expression of love and appreciation that I have for him,” Wonder told Billboard magazine.

Since debuting in the top spot a month ago, “Dance With My Father” has sold almost 1 million copies.

It is the first chart-topping album for the 52-year-old Vandross.

Rupert Murdoch has become a father for the sixth time. Wendi Deng, 35, the third wife of the 72-year-old media magnate, gave birth to a girl named Chloe on Thursday. Murdoch and Deng also have a 1-year-old daughter, Grace. Murdoch has four grown children from previous marriages.

Kevin Thomas, a veteran film critic for the Los Angeles Times, will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award at the national convention of the National Lesbian & Gay Journalists Assn. on Sept. 12. Thomas was an early champion of the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Film Festival and a pioneer of gay and lesbian film coverage.
