‘Cult classic’

I must take issue with a statement made by Steven Rosen (“Tapping Into the Rock Scene,” July 13) regarding the 1980 British rock film “Breaking Glass.” Mr. Rosen asserts that “Breaking Glass” was clueless about its subject matter and deservedly bombed at the box office. I seem to remember long lines for the midnight show of this cult classic when it showed in Los Angeles in the ‘80s. I was one of many fans who were moved by the earnest performance of Hazel O’Connor and her powerful songs. We all felt that she had pushed a button illuminating the greed and commercialism that was to become a credo throughout the ‘80s. I hope younger readers are not dissuaded from seeing this film because of an offhand comment which pretty much dismisses the film as trash. By the way, my pick for the best film in this genre is “Stardust” (1975), starring David Essex. I’d bet my bottom dollar Mr. Rosen hates this film too!
