30 Countries to Help in Iraq

The United States on Monday named 30 governments that have agreed to contribute to military or police operations in Iraq, and it said it would finance transportation and other needs for some countries.

One State Department official, who asked not to be identified, said: “We’re not putting them on the payroll. We’re not paying any salaries or stipends.”

The countries are Albania, Azerbaijan, Britain, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Estonia, El Salvador, Georgia, Honduras, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Mongolia, Netherlands, Nicaragua, Norway, the Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, South Korea, Spain and Ukraine.
