City Hires San Jose’s Chief to Lead Police

The City Council unanimously confirmed William Lansdowne as police chief Tuesday.
Lansdowne, who is giving up the corresponding job in San Jose, will take over the San Diego Police Department on Aug. 25.
“I can make this city better,” he said after the council ratified his appointment.
Lansdowne, 59, vowed to be a hands-on leader.
