From Bloomberg News

Nokia was granted a license to sell handsets based on the code division multiple access technology in China, letting the company step up competition with Motorola Inc. and local rivals.

BNMT, a Nokia joint venture in China, can begin producing CDMA phones for the Chinese market by the second half of the year, Finland-based Nokia said.

The company is targeting China to jump-start sales growth as European and U.S. markets near saturation. Motorola dethroned Nokia in the country two years ago and local rivals such as TCL Mobile Communication Co. also are gaining ground in the Chinese market, the world’s biggest with 1.3 billion consumers.
