Fears on Touch-Pad Voting Are Unfounded

Re “Touch-Pad Voting Is Far From Perfect,” letter, June 8: As a software engineer with an advanced education in computer science, with emphasis in data security in networks and distributed systems, I think the concerns of many people surrounding the security of the touch-pad voting system are due to a lack of knowledge and information.

The security of a system can be assessed only after reviewing the entire design of the voting system, the security requirements and the solutions that were provided. The malicious code some people are so concerned about is not difficult to detect and prevent. If the voting system is properly designed, there is no reason to distrust it.
