Back Bid to Join EU

The Czech Republic has voted overwhelmingly to join the European Union, paving the way for entry to the bloc of wealthier Western states in 2004, 15 years after a “Velvet Revolution” toppled communist rule.

Preliminary results of a two-day referendum showed that 77.3% of voters want to join the 15-nation European Union, making the Czechs the seventh of 10 candidate nations to vote in favor of membership next May.
