From Times Wire Reports

Northern Ireland police found a bomb weighing about 1,200 pounds in a van left on a bridge in the city of Londonderry, and they blamed Irish Republican Army members opposed to a peace deal in the British-ruled province.

Police said the bomb had been intended for “imminent attack” but that the intended target was unclear. The device was more than twice as large as the 1998 Omagh bomb, which killed 29 people in the single bloodiest attack of the conflict between pro-British Protestants and pro-Irish Roman Catholics.
