Paris Raid Targets Iran Group
Masked and heavily armed French police raided the compound of an Iranian opposition group Tuesday, detaining activists on suspicion of plotting terrorist attacks in France.
The raid came a month after U.S. forces disarmed the group’s military wing in Iraq. The Moujahedeen Khalq organization, which the U.S. and the European Union classify as a terrorist group, seeks to topple Iran’s clerical regime.
Authorities detained 159 people in the raids on the compound north of Paris and 12 other sites near the capital. They seized $1.3 million in U.S. currency, plus computers and telecommunications gear.
Tehran has complained that Western nations have let the Moujahedeen operate freely while accusing Iran of ties to terrorist groups.
