U.S. Marine Sought in Rape Case Is Arrested
A U.S. Marine suspected of raping a woman on Okinawa was arrested after U.S. military authorities agreed to turn him in.
Lance Cpl. Jose W. Torres, 21, was only the second U.S. serviceman on the Japanese island to be handed over to police before charges were brought by a prosecutor.
Officials agreed to a hand-over after being assured that Torres would “receive fair and humane treatment,” the military said. He was transferred from Camp Hansen to a police station in the city of Ishikawa, where he was arrested in the May assault.
