Simi Valley police and members of the Ventura County sheriff’s bomb squad safely detonated a pipe bomb left in a Simi Valley park, authorities said Wednesday.
The bomb, 4 inches long and made of 1-inch PVC piping, was spotted Tuesday in a culvert by a man walking his dog near Mayfair Park shortly before 8 p.m. Bomb squad members detonated the device in the park 30 minutes later after evacuating residents from two homes on Mayfair Street.
Police said the bomb, which contained screws and nails, had a small hole near one end where a fuse had burned but failed to ignite the explosive. No one was injured, and police said they have no suspects.
