Priscilla Collins, 82; Seattle Conservationist and Philanthropist

Priscilla “Patsy” Bullitt Collins, a conservationist and philanthropist, died Wednesday at her Seattle home after a long battle with lung cancer. She was 82.

A descendant of Seattle pioneers, Collins was the middle child of Dorothy and Scott Bullitt. Dorothy Bullitt founded King Broadcasting, which was sold in 1991 for about $300 million. Much of the money went to the Bullitt Foundation, which has helped finance various philanthropic efforts, including protecting Puget Sound and the region’s struggling salmon runs.

According to a family spokesman, Collins contributed an estimated $100 million over the past decade to environmental and educational causes. She also contributed $1 million to the Seattle Symphony and the city’s branch libraries to ensure children would be exposed to classical music and musicians.
