In L.A., Lots of Land, Too Many Restrictions
“L.A. Home Prices Soar in May” (June 14) says: “Home builders have ramped up construction in recent months, but building has been constrained by a lack of developable land.”
The often-expressed mantra that the shortage of housing is due to a “lack of developable” land is fiction. There are great quantities of land in the Los Angeles area that are very developable both from a physical and economical standpoint, but controls and restrictions of local governments have precluded the use of such land for production of new houses.
