A Beacon of Success

Re “Pioneer 10 Space Probe Fires Off Its Last Message,” Feb. 26: Interesting that the big red TRW beacon, off the 405 Freeway’s South Bay curve, and the Pioneer 10 spacecraft both shut down this year. As a part of the Pioneer 10 propulsion design team working on the attitude control system at Space Technology Labs [later to become TRW], I take pride in its long-term success and its being the farthest spacecraft from Earth.
