Pfizer Told Not to Ship Pregnancy Test

Pfizer Inc. was ordered to stop shipping e.p.t., the best-selling home pregnancy test in the U.S., while it battles a patent lawsuit filed by rival Inverness Medical Innovations Inc.
A federal district judge in Newark, N.J., issued the ruling, concluding that Inverness was likely to succeed in the case against Pfizer, the world’s largest drug maker.
The order doesn’t affect boxes of e.p.t. already on store shelves, a Pfizer spokesman said. The New York-based company will seek a delay in enforcement of the injunction and an expedited appeal.
Pfizer’s e.p.t. has 29% of the $240-million market for home pregnancy tests, while Inverness’s ClearBlue Easy has 7%.
