Composure isn’t the only talented 3-year-old filly Bob Baffert trains for owners Bob and Beverly Lewis.

Santa Catarina, a $950,000 yearling purchase at Keeneland, isn’t as accomplished as her multiple-stakes winning stablemate, but she has ability and will make her 2003 debut in today’s second at Santa Anita.

A bay daughter of Unbridled, Santa Catarina has one win in five starts but was second or third in three consecutive Grade I races as a 2-year-old.

Gary Stevens will become the fourth rider for Santa Catarina, who will race coupled in the betting in the $56,000 optional claimer with Beautiful Treasure.

Race of the day: During, second to Atswhatimtalknabout in his first race around two turns on Feb. 20, races Special Rate at a flat mile in today’s fourth at Santa Anita. Special Rate is a half brother of Santa Margarita Handicap runner-up Sightseek and multiple stakes winner Tates Creek.
