The suspected leader of a northeast Los Angeles gang pleaded not guilty Thursday to nine gang-related killings and six attempted murders in a case that carries the death penalty, the district attorney’s office said.

Prosecutors said Timothy Joseph McGhee, 29, is suspected of either killing or supervising the killing of five men and four women from October 1997 to November 2001 as part of a scheme to control the narcotics trade in the Atwater Village area.
