Don’t think twice, it’s all lingerie

Phones have been lighting up at Victoria’s Secret headquarters in Columbus, Ohio, since a new TV ad surfaced in which the lingerie maker’s models frolic lovingly around the Palazzo in Venice to the soothing music of ... Bob Dylan.

And to boot, it’s Dylan at his most dour, singing “Love Sick,” from his Grammy-winning but supremely downcast 1997 album “Time Out of Mind.” “People are calling and asking when it’s going to be shown again,” says Ed Razek, chief creative officer for Victoria’s Secret.

“It’s the combination of Dylan’s voice ... the 40 years of gravitas he brings to his work, and the juxtaposition against those ethereal images and that incredibly romantic setting.... We tried an enormous amount of music against it, from Schubert to Tom Waits. But when we put that Dylan track with it, it was just magical.”

Over the last four decades, Dylan’s music has been used in commercials “a handful of times -- not that often,” says a source close to the singer-songwriter, including “The Times They Are A-Changin’ ” for a bank commercial several years ago, and “Shelter From the Storm” in a public-service announcement for the World Wildlife Fund. “No cigarette or beer commercials,” the source said.
