Madonna video being altered

Madonna’s “American Life” has changed since the war began. The reportedly controversial video for her new song has been edited in recent days and subjected to “fine-tuning and tweaking” to make it sensitive to the times, according to Liz Rosenberg, spokeswoman for the singer.

Rosenberg would not elaborate Friday on the exact nature of the excised or altered scenes, but in previous reports on the project, sources said it included images of children in war-torn settings and battlefield imagery. The video was filmed in February and is expected to debut on VH1 in early April.

The spokeswoman denied that Madonna is taming her message after seeing other artists chastised for politicking (“She has never been afraid to stick her neck out”) and said it is wrong to say the new video is anti-military (“She is quite supportive of American soldiers”). The song is the title track of her next album, which is due next month.
