Former Budget Advisor Named to Power Panel

Gov. Gray Davis has appointed his newly retired chief budget advisor, Tim Gage, to the board of the Independent System Operator, the agency that operates California’s power grid.
Gage, a key figure in the controversy over a $95-million software licensing contract with Oracle Corp., will receive no salary.
In hearings, Gage admitted he approved the deal even though his staff opposed it. An audit concluded that the contract would require the state to pay millions for software that few departments needed.
Gage’s appointment is subject to Senate confirmation.
