Proof Sought in Smart Case

SALT LAKE CITY —
Prosecutors requested blood, hair and writing samples Thursday from the couple charged with kidnapping and sexually abusing Elizabeth Smart.
Dist. Atty. David Yocom filed the motions Thursday along with a request for mental competency exams for Brian David Mitchell, 49, and his wife, Wanda Barzee, 57. The girl was abducted June 5 and turned up March 12 in Sandy, Utah.
