Couple OK Plea Bargain in Foster Child Abuse

A husband and wife accused of starving, beating and torturing their 4-year-old foster son have pleaded no contest to child abuse charges.
Simmarie and Marco Carrillo avoided possible life prison sentences after reaching a plea agreement Thursday.
A torture charge was dropped in the deal.
Simmarie Carrillo, 23, will be sentenced to 12 years in prison. Marco Carrillo, 26, could receive six years under the agreement.
The couple cared for at least five foster children from 2001 to 2002, but prosecutors filed charges after a 4-year-old boy lost a third of his body weight, dropping to about 35 pounds. He also suffered burns and head trauma, prosecutors said.
