Like its namesake, the Chameleon volleyball by Spalding changes colors according to its environment. Indoors, the ball is all white; in sunlight, some panels change to blue. The light-adapting composite leather exterior is treated to be sensitive to UV light rays.

Chameleon volleyball: In the volleyball world, the jury is out on what color ball is best -- some prefer pure white, while others like solid or mixed colors. Multicolored panels “do allow you to see the spin of the ball better,” according to John Kessel, director of education, disabled, grass-roots and beach volleyball for USA Volleyball, the Colorado Springs, Colo.-based national governing body for volleyball.

Price: $19.99; (800) SPALDING.
