Judge Rules Permits for Power Lines Illegal
Sempra Energy and InterGen’s permits to build cross-border transmission lines from Mexican power plants were called into question after a judge ruled that U.S. authorities didn’t adequately consider the environmental effects.
U.S. District Judge Irma E. Gonzalez in San Diego said the U.S. Energy Department illegally failed to conduct a full analysis of the environmental consequences of electrical transmission lines connecting plants in Mexicali, Mexico, to the U.S. power grid in Imperial County.
The ruling is a potential setback to plans by power companies to build Mexican plants to supply California.
