2 Officers Suspected in Assault on Inmate
From Staff and Wire Reports
Two Yolo County correctional officers have been arrested after co-workers reported an alleged assault on an inmate, a sheriff’s official said.
Gary Culverson, 25, and Rod Van Kopp, 37, were arrested Friday on suspicion of assault under the color of authority after allegedly using excessive force on an 18-year-old inmate at the Monroe Detention Center.
The officers were released the day of their arrests after posting $35,000 bail. They have been placed on administrative leave, Sheriff Ed Prieto said Monday.
