The Humane Society of the United States is offering a $2,500 reward for information that leads to the conviction of whoever abandoned a severely abused horse last month.

The 3-year-old mare was found April 28 near the San Gabriel River, according to authorities. Officials were forced to euthanize the horse, which had swollen front legs and was at least 150 pounds underweight.

Officials ask anyone with information to call the Southeast Area Animal Control Authority at (562) 803-3301, Ext. 224.
