Congress Shouldn’t Change Filibuster Rule

Re “GOP Leader Seeks Senate Rule Change,” May 10: Do not change Rule XXII in the U.S. Senate, which would lower the vote to end a filibuster from 60 to 51 votes. Checks and balances are essential in a democracy. To reduce checks and balances is to invite tyranny. Have moderate Republicans moved from the endangered species list to extinction? The so-called nuclear option, wherein the vice president “would hand down a parliamentary rule that Senate Rule XXII did not apply to the president’s nomination, only to legislation,” is lunacy. When in our history has such arrogance stalked the halls of Congress?
