A neighborhood close to perfection

Share

Regarding the Lakewood homes in the ‘50s (“Finding Humility and a Kind of Paradise,” April 24), my husband and I, newly married, Jewish and gainfully employed, bought our first house in Lakewood with the assistance of the GI Bill. The price was $12,500.

We sold in one year and relocated to another tract not too far away, also in Lakewood. There were people of color and various ethnic origins. The price of the second home was $14,000. We stayed there many years and had developed lifelong friends from the neighborhood.
