Supervisor Defends Donation Limit Boost

Re “$1,000 Contribution Limit Is Now a Casualty of War Chests,” May 11:

Shirley Grindle attacks the Orange County Board of Supervisors for raising the county contribution limit to $1,400. But we were only following the law that Grindle herself wrote.

That law, passed by the voters in 1992, states that the “Board of Supervisors shall adjust the contribution limitations to reflect any cumulative increase or decrease in the Consumer Price Index.”

Our action was not an option. The law requires the contribution be raised to reflect inflation and that’s what we did.
