Measure Would Free 13 Imprisoned in Drug Case
Thirteen people -- 11 of them black -- imprisoned in a drug case built on testimony by a now-discredited, white undercover agent will be freed once Gov. Rick Perry signs a bill unanimously approved in Austin by the Texas House.
The legislation, unanimously approved by the Senate two weeks ago, would allow the inmates to be released before they are officially exonerated.
The inmates, the only ones still in prison, were among dozens of residents, most of them black, in the predominantly white town of Tulia convicted on the testimony of undercover agent Tom Coleman.
