Soldiers clashed with rebels in northeastern Uganda, killing 33 insurgents in three separate battles over the last three days, the army said. Three soldiers were also killed in the fighting.

An army spokesman said one battle was in the village of Wila Wila, another near the village of Kalaki and the third near the trading center of Dokolo.

The rebel Lord’s Resistance Army has been fighting President Yoweri Museveni since he came to power in 1986.
