Philadelphia Mayor Gets Clinton Campaign Boost

From Times Wire Reports

Saying he knows “quite a bit about Republicans investigating Democrats,” President Clinton led a raucous rally for besieged Philadelphia Mayor John Street four days ahead of the election.

Clinton said Republicans in Washington “ought to be investigating [Street’s] public record, because it’s a lot better than theirs.”

The investigation became public Oct. 7 when police discovered a hidden listening device in Street’s City Hall office.

A poll showed that the FBI bugging of the mayor had given a boost to his reelection effort against GOP opponent Sam Katz. Democrats have blamed the inquiry on Republicans trying to harm the mayor politically.
