Ties With U.S. Church Are Only Loosened

A group of Anglican leaders said they had loosened ties with the U.S. Episcopal Church over the consecration of its first openly gay bishop, but they stopped short of declaring a schism.

Nigerian Archbishop Peter Akinola said V. Gene Robinson’s consecration in New Hampshire has created “a state of impaired communion.” His statement was signed by a group of churches in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
