Security officers shot and killed the country’s former top civil aviation official and a navy reserve officer as they seized the Manila airport’s control tower at gunpoint, security officials said.

Former Air Transport Office chief Panfilo Villaruel and the officer, identified as Ricardo Catchillar, were armed with guns and explosives when they forced controllers out of the building, security chief Angelo Atutubo said, adding that the two men claimed they wanted to expose government corruption.
