Chris Rix, QB, Florida State
They were singing the praises of Rix in Tallahassee since he bounced back from a rain-soaked wipeout against Miami. But the Bowden Bowl V wasn’t a Heisman Trophy springboard. Rix completed only 16 of 31 passes for 194 yards with two interceptions in a 26-10 loss to Clemson in which Florida State’s national championship hopes went awash.

Jason White, QB, Oklahoma
The “Heisman Watch” doesn’t have a no-repeat rule, and besides it would be silly to consider any other player to win the award the way White and the Sooners are dominating the opposition. White tied a school record with five touchdown passes -- in the first half -- of a 77-0 mauling of Texas A&M.;
